The Missouri Oral Health Preventive Services Program (PSP) needs YOU! Hygienists are needed for 1 day/year (unless they volunteer at more than one school).
What is PSP? PSP is a comprehensive prevention program offered to schools, head start programs, community action agencies and community clinics desiring to implement an oral health program. The program incorporates four components: 1. Oral Health Screening 2. Prevention (fluoride varnish application) 3. Education 4. Referral for those children with dental needs This program is designed to bring the community together in planning and implementing an oral health program. School nurses, teachers, administrators, parents, dental professionals and others interested in oral health work together to bring the program to their community.
Where You're Needed The PSP has identified some schools interested in implementing the program in the Fall of 2009 that will be in need of hygienists to provide dental screenings. The schools in need of your help are the following: · Long Elementary School, St. Louis, MO (Lindbergh School District) · Rogers Elementary School, St. Louis, MO (Mehlville School District) · Franklin County Elementary School, New Haven, MO · Owensville Elementary School, Owensville, MO · Gerald Elementary , Gerald, MO
Read More About PSP Information about the program is available on-line as well as calibration for the screening process. This will allow interested offices & individuals the opportunity to receive the necessary information & training in preparation to participate in the Preventive Services Program from the convenience of their office or home. VICTORY over HB 1976! Thank you so much to those who supported our association in defeating HB 1976 which would have allowed anyone to scale patients. Congratulations! HB 1976. Allows dental assistants to remove hard and soft deposits from teeth if done under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist. Sponsor:. Parson, Michael L. (133). Proposed Effective Date:. 08/28/2008.
The bill will always be a threat. The time to fight it is now. Please, to protect the integrity of dental hygiene practice:
Join or continue to support the ADHA. Support MO Hy-PAC. Contact your legislators in opposition of any bill that poses a threat to the public's oral healthcare delivery. In times of need, your contacts should be courteous and professional. Your message might be something like this, in your own words:
“We are asking you to oppose (HB 1976) which would allow untrained individuals to perform dental hygiene procedures on the citizens of Missouri in an unsafe and dangerous manner. The legislation provides for no educational requirements for an untrained individual to perform dental hygiene procedures on Missouri residents. Dental hygienists are required to complete a 2-year educational program to provide these services. Thousands of dental hygienists and several hundred dentists throughout Missouri, oppose this legislation which could lead to an unsafe situation for Missouri residents seeking dental care. Please oppose (HB 1976) or any amendments to other bills which would reduce the educational requirements for individuals performing dental hygiene type services. Thank you for your time and consideration” Please be certain to give your address and telephone number.
Mission: To improve the public's total health, the mission of the Greater St. Louis Dental Hygienists' Association is to advance the art and science of dental hygiene by ensuring access to oral health care, increasing awareness of the cost effective benefits of prevention, promoting the highest standards of dental hygiene education, licensure, and practice, research, and representing the interests of dental hygienists.
